Brief Profile & Role
The Special Account for Research Funds of the University of the Aegean (ELKE-UA) assumes the central role of Lead Beneficiary and Coordinator of the Eco-Beachtech project. The UA was selected as the leader due to its extensive experience in managing co-financed programs, possessing an organized management system and ISO certification.
Through the Department of Oceanography and Marine Biosciences, the UA brings high expertise to the partnership in scientific fields directly relevant to the subject matter of the operation.
Key Responsibilities in Eco-Beachtech:
- Coordination & Management: The UA holds the overall coordination of the project and is responsible for organizing tasks and the quality control of deliverables.
- Technical & Scientific Leadership: Undertakes the study and simulation of erosion/flooding, the spatial layout of artificial reefs, and the determination of the required sand quantity for protection.
- Research: Responsible for the identification and qualitative/quantitative assessment of underwater sand deposits in Lesvos, Lemnos, and Cyprus.
- Data Development: The UA contributes decisively to the creation of the geospatial database and the assessment of coastal flood risk for the North Aegean and Cyprus.
The UA ensures the continuity and sustainability of the project by transferring know-how and equipment, contributing to the formulation of Regional policies.
